Your Hosts

Stamatis says:

"The most important thing about us is that I love what I do and take pride in it. I take great pleasure knowing that our guests will experience what a charter holiday can be like on a 48 ft X- yacht. I am proud to show our guests the islands and coastline of Greece in all their beauty. To me it is not about processing yet another charter trip. Meeting people in a setting that gives us all so much pleasure is special every time. I take pride in the knowledge that guests will go back home with a treasure trove of exciting, fun- filled and unique experiences to think back on.

"I have been a professional captain on yachts since my mid-twenties with extensive skippering experience in both commercial and pleasure boats. I grew up in Greece and for the last 30 years have been all over the world working as a captain in many different geographical areas of the world (Canada, Thailand, Australia) and in different capacities from owning my own fishing vessel off the west coast of Canada to skippering yachts in Southeast Asia. I bought Hocux Pocux in Thailand and sailed there for a couple of years but realized that my most fulfilling work would only be attained if I were to return to Greece and combine my love for Greece, my love of sailing and the enjoyment I get out of sharing my knowledge of Greece with other people.

"I studied Biotechnology at Mahasalakham University in Thailand. I soon realized that my real interest was in learning traditional Thai massage. I studied at Wat Pho temple, one of the major temples in Bangkok and major learning centers for traditional Thai massage. I now have three certificates from Wat Pho temple for three different kinds of massage: Thai traditional massage, oil massage and foot massage. Last year I worked in Athens for one year with great success.

"My other passion is Thai food. I am sure many of you have tasted it in restaurants at home. I pretty confident that if you taste mine it will compare favorable to the best cooking you've tasted! But don't worry I won't make it too spicy for you. In any case, I can cook international dishes as well in case you get homesick for more homey food!"

Stamatis and his wife Tan have recently opened a Thai Restaurant on the island of Mykonos, which means Tan will no longer be able to come on sailing trips as cook / hostess, though it will be possible to offer a free Thai meal on board the yacht on the first and last nights of the trip if desired! A hostess / cook can be found to come along for the rest of the trip if required.

Stamatis likes to

  • plan your sailing experience together with you and tailor fit it to your particular likes and dislikes. Usually this means balancing out the sailing with the swimming and sightseeing so that everyone on board is happy.
  • encourage his charter guests to sail Hocux Pocux themselves provided they want to do so.
  • make sure that everyone is comfortable
  • pick the best anchorages
  • show you where the good "Tavernas" (restaurants) are to be found in each port.

Strong stable safe and fast...
Her design and every nut and bold that went into making her are of the highest quality After all, she was built in a shipyard that has a top international reputation to maintain! Here is just one of her safety features. She has two steel beams anchored into her hull. This makes her much stronger than other fibre glass yachts. Ad to this that the two steel beams distribute all the loads evenly around the hull and you know that you are sailing in an extremely strong yacht.

ACCOMMODATION
Hocux Pocux is licensed to carry up to eight guests plus two crew, though we do not recommend taking more than 6 guests for everyone's comfort.

Cabins and beds.
As you can see from the layout plan, Hocux Pocux has four cabins altogether. Two identical aft cabins each with a double bed and plenty of storage space in the stern. One spacious forward cabin with a V berth and next to it is an other forward cabin with two single bunks, bunk bed style. The seating arrangements in the saloon can also be used as bunks.

Base
Our main bases are Mykonos and Athens but we are happy to accept charters from various locations, including the Cyclades islands, according to where other charters begin or end. The easiest bases to get to in these islands are Mykonos, Paros and Syros.

Probably the most famous Greek islands are Mykonos and Santorini. These belong to an island group called the Cycladic islands. So if you are not a very keen sailor we suggest you meet us on the island of Mykonos. It is located at the centre of the Cyclades and is the gateway to the surrounding islands. Syros, Renia (the island on which Aphrodite was born), Delos (the island on which Apollo, her twin brother was born), Patmos, Naxos and numerous other islands are well within our cruising grounds here.
