Customers Logbook Comments(The following entries from Sailing Yacht Sophia's log-books are in random order.) Tues 8 June, 1999 (Kyra Panagia) "11:00 Monk seal sighted in the bay!!" Wed 21 April, 1993, (Skiathos) "Wake 10:00. Visited by port authorities who ask why we haven't reported to the authorities. Get supplies and leave at 1pm, headed for Skopelos. First stop - Panormos bay, a beautiful secluded spot where we anchored. Had lunch on board with a spot of sunbathing. 4.30pm - left for Agnondas, on South side of island, where we docked alongside on the right as we entered. Taverna was closed so we took a taxi to Skopelos town. No telephones anywhere!" Tuesday 26th July 1994 "Off to Koukounaries/Skiathos. Lovely beach - but very many tourists! Water ski and other funny things to do - very expensive these things. We are in a lack of ice!" Friday 21 May, 1993 (Leaving Volos) "Wind 8-10, sea 22°C, swim a little in the gulf. See a sea turtle! It appeared to have a damaged shell, but otherwise ok. Strange to see them so far north." Mon 7 June, 1999 (Kyra Panagia) "A lot of the bushes are dry without leaves on the southern slopes. Investigation shows that a brown moth (butterfly) by the thousands, fly around on the bushes. A lot of caterpillars and cocoons can be found. All the leaves get eaten. Looks like a real threat to the island!" Sunday 9th April 1995 "Kalamaki. Rough sea, 5Bf. Hedi, Valesin, Sebastian and I left Kalamaki at 1030. Wind NNW, calmed down to 2Bf. Little rain in the afternoon. At 1700 no wind, we motored to Aegina, (1 hour). Arrival at Aegina: 1815. Good sailing with Sophia!" Thursday 27 May, 1993 "Day off in Skyros. Visited Skyros town and did a bit of swimming. We had an excellent lobster in the taverna at the harbour and admired the whole Greek navy going along side a single ferry boat." Monday 18th July 1994 "First breakfast on board and off to Patitiri! Very loud there - flying dolphins and ferry boats. But - there is a ladder into the sea, very comfortably!" Saturday 29 May, 1993 "Leave at 09.05 for Pelagonisi island. Bright day, but only 1-3 Bf. We reach Ormos Panagia at 14.20 for a swim and leave again at 15:15 because we get a nice breeze at 4-5 Bf and do a bit of sailing. Back at Ormos Panagia at 17:45. Dropped two anchors for a quiet night. Saw a school of dolphins!" Sunday 30 May, 1993 "Leave Pelagonisi at 11:00 for Loutraki (Skopelos). Virtually no wind, have to motor. Dropped anchor at Loutraki at 17:00. Excellent dinner in Glossa over-looking the sea bathed in Moonlight." Tuesday 2nd June 1998 "Arrive Skopelos. No mooring space due to large Sunsail flotilla and military boat. Satisfactory anchor eastern area of harbour, 20m. Wind NE, 1-3." Tuesday 8 June, 1993 "Leave Skanzoura at 11:00 after spending a very peaceful night, cut off from all signs of habitation, (except for the resident goats), and set course for Skyros. Wind-scale: 1, Sea temperature: 23°C, like glass, no sea traffic anywhere. Arrived Lanaria at 16:30 and docked alongside on the small quay. Room for about 3 boats. We had ouzo and meze opposite, before taking the dinghy to the beach. "During the night we are forced to wake up our German neighbours, as the Greek Navy arrived, wanting to dock their oil tanker alongside us all!" Saturday 12th September 1998 "A very nice boat - we have enjoyed our holiday very much. Many thanks, George, Cilla, Edward and Thomas N." (England). Monday 21 June, 1993 "Leave Kea at 10:30 heading towards Syros, only a little wind (2-3), arrive slowly in a very lonely bay called Ormos Megas Lakkos. Nothing but nature and two more boats, one of them with very friendly Austrian people. Tomorrow we head for Mykonos." Friday 2 July 1993 "Leave Symi at 12:15 for Rhodos. Very strong wind (6-7) and high waves. Arrive in Rhodos Mandraki at 1700 where everything is busy. Very dangerous situation as a big yacht drifted against Sophia and the neighbouring boats. The owner (present to perform the check out) and we were quite concerned about Sophia's health but everything turned out well." "Goodbye Sophia. Thank you!" (Crew: Rainer, Ingrid, Jeannelle.) Saturday 17 July 1993 "1200 - To northern bay of Diaporos for swimming. Nice place! 1415 - leave Diaporos going east under sails. 1710 - engine on, follow the coastline of Athos. Nice views of monastery villages. 2027- under Athos, having dinner. 2120 - Forced to leave by Athos police!" Wednesday 21 July 1993 "Spend the day at Sigri, nice place. Very good restaurant on the waterfront (the smaller one which can be seen from the anchorage) - lobster can be recommended! Name is Goldenkey." Friday 23 July 1993 "Stay in Plomarion. Go by car to Mytilini. Buy gas. Visit the castle, very impressive. Also, the ancient harbour can be seen from here. Then to Aginssos for a visitation. Back to Mytilini on a very bad road, but impressive scenery in the mountains." Friday 30 July 1993 "1045 - Leave Agnondas (under sail to Skiathos). Happy sailing on the last day of our tour. No place for berthing. Luckily a yacht moves out, so we get a good place at the north end of the Yacht Pier. End of tour." Sunday 24th July 1994 "Due to the weather forecast too much wind for the ladies! Bus excursion to Skopelos. Lovely town!" Friday 20 August 1993 "The boat
was good, the holiday was perfect, the Sporades were beautiful and the
only thing we can say is: See you next year!" |
