Now most definitely 'off the beaten track' Greece, this coastline once played home not only to Jason and his Argonauts, but was the spot where Achilles set sail to conquer Troy. The small islands here are beautiful with sandy beaches, wooded headlands and pretty villages. It's a 'must see' area for lovers of Greece with 'must sail' waters for more experienced crews. From our Greece flotilla homeport on Skiathos we take advantage of fresh sailing winds heading west to the more sheltered Gulf of Volos to visit Paleo Trikeri and historic Pegadi in the lee of the Pelion peninsula and Amaliopolis. Next we visit the splendour of Evia and Orei where an ancient Acropolis still guards the harbour. Our flotilla route back to Skiathos stops off at one of the areas famed beaches, Koukounaries. The Sporades cruise plots a course around relatively undiscovered islands such as Alonissos with its scenic harbours at Patitiri and Steni Vala. The Weather
Reliable sunshine and good sailing winds with flat seas along the
southern side of the Islands. The season runs from
May to early October, with temperatures ranging from the mid 70s
in early and late season to the high 80s from June
through mid September. Moderate to fresh winds force 3-6, the upper
range being during the late July and August
Meltemi season.
